Spring Walk and Picnic - Oldbury Court, Bristol

Please note: we have changed the location for the Sangha Walk on 28th April to Oldbury Court, Fishponds, as this is more accessible by public Transport - see details below.  If you would like to come on this walk please RSVP to this event. 

This 1.5 mile walk starts and ends at Vassall's Park carpark in Oldbury Court, Fishponds, Bristol where there are toilets and a play area.  

Please aim to arrive at the carpark by 10.45am ready to start walking by 11.00am.

ABOUT THE WALK

This is a circular walk along a mixture of well made paths and well trodden footpaths.  Please note this walk is suitable for those both with and without children, however, some of the paths are a little steep.  The plan is to walk through the park and down on a well made path to the River Frome.  From here we will walk along by the river for half a mile on a footpath which can be muddy, before climbing back up to the field at the top to have our picnic.  Along the way we will stop and admire the beautiful beech trees and interesting rock formations.  There is also an opportunity to paddle in one of the side streams.  After lunch there will be time for some games and songs.   For those who wish to stay on after our time together, Vassall's Park play area is a short walk across the field where there is an outdoor cafe for drinks and snacks and usually an ice cream van.

Please bring a picnic for yourself/family, a drink and something to sit on (this is not a sharing lunch).  

IMPORTANT - TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS

• We ask that you make your own way to the start of the walk.  There are a number of buses that go along Fishponds Road and Blackberry Hill. There are bus stop in the main Fishponds shopping area.  From here, Vassall's Park carpark is a 10-15 minute walk.   
• There may be very limited lifts available from two locations, one in the north Bristol Bishopston/Redland area and one in the south Bristol Bedminster Parade area.   Should you be offered a lift, you will need to make your own way to the pick up location.  There is no guarantee that lifts will be available to everyone as this will depend on space in cars.
• If you are able to offer a lift or need a lift please fill in the details on the RSVP form by 21st April providing a contact number and indicating the pick-up location.  We will email round a spreadsheet of contact details to those offering and needing a lift for you to make your own arrangements - but please try and make your own way to Oldbury Court if at all possible as lift space is limited.
• Please note: parking charges apply at Vassall's Park carpark, which has limited capacity.  There is also on-street parking available in nearby streets.
